We’re Proud to Be Part of a National Movement for LGBTIQ+ Inclusion
At Novotel Perth Murray Street, inclusion isn’t a policy we hang on a wall, it’s something our team lives every day. So when we heard that our hotel had been spotlighted in a national Accor press release for our work with Welcome With Pride, it felt less like a moment to celebrate ourselves and more like a reminder of why this work matters so deeply to us here in Perth. Read on to discover more about our LGBTIQ+ inclusive hotel in Perth.
What the Research Is Telling Us
Welcome With Pride’s research (conducted with LGBTIQ+ communities across Australia) paints a picture that the hospitality industry can’t afford to ignore. More than half of LGBTIQ+ travellers report feeling unsafe being themselves while on holiday. Many change the way they dress or speak, avoid showing affection, or check into hotels separately from their partners simply out of a need to self-protect.
That’s not the kind of stay we want anyone to have at Novotel Perth Murray Street, one of the best LGBTIQ+ inclusive hotels in Perth
Perth is a vibrant, open and growing city and our hotel sits right in the heart of it. Every guest who walks through our doors, whether they’re in town for work, visiting family, or escaping for a weekend, deserves to feel at home. Completely, authentically at home.
What Welcome With Pride Training Looks Like in Practice: LGBTIQ+ inclusive hotel Perth
Welcome With Pride is Australia’s first evidence-based inclusion training and accreditation program built specifically for tourism and hospitality.
It was co-designed with LGBTIQ+ communities, which means it goes far beyond tick-box awareness sessions. The training focuses on the practical, day-to-day moments that shape a guest’s experience: how we greet people at the front desk, the language we use, the assumptions we don’t make and the environment we actively create.
For our team here at Novotel Perth Murray Street, completing the program wasn’t just a professional development exercise… it sparked something real. As our Director of Talent & Culture, Jai McNaughton, put it: we didn’t just want to look inclusive. We wanted to be inclusive.
The difference has shown up in our engagement scores, our team culture and in the feedback from the people who work and stay with us.
One of our own team members described the training as genuinely transformative, giving them greater confidence and comfort in who they are at work.
That kind of outcome is exactly what this program is designed to deliver and it’s something we’re immensely proud of.
Part of Something Bigger
Novotel Perth Murray Street is one of 32 Accor hotels across Australia now enrolled in the Welcome With Pride program, with the network aiming to reach 50 accredited hotels by the end of 2026. Being part of that national rollout means we’re contributing to a shift in what LGBTIQ+ travellers can expect from the hospitality sector… not just in Perth, but across the country.
Accor has long led on inclusion. The company’s Gender Affirmation Policy, introduced across the Pacific region back in 2022, set a benchmark for how hospitality businesses can support team members navigating gender affirmation in the workplace, from flexible uniform choices to the use of chosen pronouns across internal systems.
Our commitment here in Perth builds on that foundation.
